STUDENT VISA
The Australian
Government allows students who are not Australian citizens to study in
Australia. Anyone who is not an Australian resident may apply to study
in Australia. One must obtain a student visa before he/she can commence
a course of study in Australia. You can be granted a student visa only
if you wish to undertake a registered course or part of a registered
course on a full-time basis. You may undertake any course of study for
less than three months on a visitor visa or working holiday visa. If you
intend to study for more than three months, you must apply for a student
visa.
Applying for a Student visa
You do not need to apply
for a student visa until after you have been accepted by your education
provider and have received formal proof of enrolment. You can apply with
either a letter of offer or a Confirmation of Enrolment (COE). However,
if you submit only a letter of offer your visa cannot be granted until
the COE has been issued. You will need a student visa for the whole time
that you study in Australia.
Student visa requirements
Before you apply for an
Australian course you should contact the Australian embassy in your
country to find out if you will be eligible for an Australian student
visa. When applying for a student visa, carefully check the country
assessment level for your country of origin. The country assessment
levels range from one to five, and depend on where your passport was
issued, and your visa subclass.
