COMMUNICATIONS

With the current advances in communication technology, no one is far away any more. Australia offers an extensive communications network, so staying in touch with family and friends back home, and with your new friends in Australia, will be easy.

Australia has a modern telephone system. Public telephones are available at all Post Offices, shopping centers and are often situated on street corners. Public pay phones accept a variety of coins and Phone cards. Phone cards are pre-paid for use in public pay phones and can be bought at a large number of retail outlets in different denominations. There are a variety of mobile phone providers, offering an extensive range of mobile phones. For calling overseas you can buy a phone card for cheap international calls.

Your education provider will generally offer internet and computer services. Alternatively, there are internet cafés everywhere. Public libraries also offer computer facilities, often for free. If you wish to have the internet connected at home this will be easy to organize.

And don't forget, there is still the post. Australia Post sends letters and packages around the world, generally in less than a week for international post and overnight for within Australia. So, it will be easy to send and receive presents and packages from home.
